“You make me crazy.”
John glanced at Rodney, who was swinging his legs over the edge of the pier and staring at the water. John’s eyes then drifted to the empty bottle of wine that sat between them.
“You’re drunk.”
“It’s not just the wine,” Rodney insisted.
John raised an eyebrow. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Finally, Rodney looked at him. “I mean you make me crazy all the time -”
“Crazy, how?” John interrupted. He was afraid of where this was going.
“You walk around with that body and those eyes and that ridiculous hair and then act surprised when women come on to you - but I can never get an actual read on you - and you’re a reckless flyboy while actually managing to be a genius and I just - I can’t, Sheppard. With you.”
John was speechless. He drained the rest of the wine from his plastic cup, which was apparently enough liquid courage to drag him over the line into what could be dangerous territory.
“Is there,” John began, pausing to clear his throat, “Anything you want to do about that?”
It was taking all of John’s willpower to not throw himself at Rodney, but he was a firm believer in body autonomy and didn’t want to take advantage of Rodney’s intoxicated state.
“Well, I really, really want to -” Rodney trailed off, his eyes staring intently at John’s lips before looking back up.
John smiled and leaned in closer. “I know.”
Rodney looked shocked, and John felt a slight twist in his gut.
“You do?”
John nodded, and that’s all it took. Rodney surged toward him and kissed him, and it tasted like sweet fire.
Rodney pulled away slightly, and he sighed with what John hoped was happiness.
“We’re idiots, you know?”
John laughed and kissed him again.
